Namaste Solar Installs SunPower Solar Power System on Colorado Governor's Residence

June 29, 2007 at 12:00 AM EDT

DENVER, June 29, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Namaste Solar Electric and SunPower Corporation (Nasdaq: SPWR), a Silicon Valley-based manufacturer of high-efficiency solar cells, solar panels and solar systems, today announced the completed installation of a 7.4-kilowatt solar power system at the Colorado Governor's Residence in Denver using SunPower's high-efficiency solar electric panels.

The system, which is installed at the Carriage House at the historic Boettcher Mansion, will generate 8,441 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. In combination with a smaller 2.4-kilowatt system installed on the Pump House on the property, the Governor's Residence will generate 11,200 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year, offsetting approximately 10.5 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

"Delivering on the promise of the 'New Energy Economy' in Colorado, we are working to make our state government a model consumer of renewable energy," said Colorado Governor Bill Ritter. "Solar power is a reliable, secure, clean and economically viable energy resource that can help reverse the trends of global warming."

"With this solar power system, the Governor's Residence -- and the people of Colorado -- will benefit from lower utility bills while making a positive difference for the environment," said Blake Jones, president of Namaste Solar, a SunPower Premier Dealer. "Solar power systems act as a hedge against rising utility costs, and contribute to the bright and healthy future of our families and future generations."

As part of its agreement under this contract, Namaste Solar is donating community service hours to educate the public about the benefits of solar power systems.

"We are proud to partner with Namaste Solar for this important installation," said Tom Werner, chief executive officer of SunPower. "Governor Ritter has demonstrated strong leadership in promoting the use of solar power and other renewable sources of energy. We applaud his commitment to solar as an essential component of our global energy mix, and look forward to working with him to facilitate deploying a wide range of solar systems across the state of Colorado."
